Outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO)

An OCIO takes on investment decision-making authority for an institution or firm, as distinct from a platform that executes decisions the advisor makes.

The dividing line is discretion. A TAMP typically implements your mandate; an OCIO typically sets it. Firms that want operational relief without surrendering the investment relationship are usually describing the former.
