Householding

Householding is the practice of combining related accounts for the purpose of calculating fees, so a family reaches breakpoints on their combined assets rather than account by account.

It is one of the most common sources of billing error, because the grouping has to be right and has to stay right as accounts are opened, closed and transferred.

The failure is quiet. Nobody notices a household that should have been grouped and was not — except the client, eventually, and by then it has happened for several quarters.
