A virtual model is a custom set of strategy weights built for one account or sleeve, rather than a published model shared across many.
Advisors need both. Published models give consistency and scale; virtual models handle the client whose circumstances genuinely differ — a concentrated position being unwound, a restriction the family insists on, a legacy holding with an unacceptable gain.
A platform that offers only published models forces those clients into a spreadsheet, which is where oversight goes to die.
