Glossary · Risk and suitability
Risk capacity is a client's financial ability to absorb loss without damaging their objectives — a function of time horizon, income, liquidity needs and obligations.
Capacity is arithmetic where tolerance is psychology. A client can be entirely comfortable with volatility they cannot afford, and the two facts have to be held separately to notice that.
