Held-away assets

Held-away assets are client holdings an adviser can see and advise on but does not custody or directly manage — a workplace retirement plan, an outside brokerage account.

They matter for allocation, for wash-sale awareness and for advice. Showing them in a report requires care about what is being represented, because a valuation the adviser did not produce and cannot reconcile is a different kind of number.
