A corporate action is an event initiated by a security's issuer that changes the security or the holder's position — splits, mergers, spin-offs, name and identifier changes, and distributions.
Corporate actions are the most common cause of reconciliation breaks and of performance figures that suddenly look wrong for one account and correct for every other.
