Up and down capture

Capture ratios measure how much of a benchmark's gains a strategy captured in rising periods, and how much of its losses in falling ones.

The pair together describes a strategy's character more honestly than a single return figure. A strategy capturing eighty percent of the upside and fifty percent of the downside is doing something specific and describable.
